Whitewater rafting requires some very specific pieces of clothing. Most tour companies offer the option of renting wetsuits, while others require you to provide your own weather appropriate attire. Depending on the temperature of the water and the time of year you’re going, wearing a wetsuit might be the best option for you. The following is a list of alternatives you may want to consider:

  • Polypropylene, synthetic or Thermax top, swim suit, or t-shirt
  • Farmer John wetsuit bottoms, sealed dry suit, shorts, or dry-suit pants
  • Waterproof wind-breaking spray jacket or neoprene wetsuit jacket, fleece jacket, wool jacket or nylon splash jacket
  • Neoprene booties, old sneakers, or water sandals
  • Nylon underwear
  • Wool socks, synthetic socks or knee-high mukluks
  • Life jacket
  • Sunglasses on a tether strap
  • Synthetic gloves or wool gloves
  • Wool cap, helmet, hat with brim, baseball cap, or neoprene hood (with ear flaps)
