The first requirement for awater poloplayer is the ability to swim. Strong swimmers typically excel at thesportbecause they have more endurance in the water. In general, the basic skills required to play water polo can be taught to children at a very early age.Swimming, passing a ball, shooting, blocking, etc., are skills that can be learned around age six. However, organized water polo teams and organizations are not available until around age thirteen.

Water polo is an exciting sport to play throughout young adulthood. You can continue playing as an adult; however, because water polo is such a physically demanding sport, it’s important to continually assess your abilities and competition as you age. You may want to observe a water polo match before joining a team or league.
