Although many people believe that walking can be done with any clothing, it’s important to take the weather into consideration. When weather is cold make sure you bundle up! Even if you’re hot and sweaty when you exercise, your body is still cold and you can still get sick. Also, make sure you are wearing comfortable clothing that’s not too big. The right clothing will make your walk more enjoyable and will give you better results. Here’s a recommended checklist for walking apparel for both indoors and out: 

  • T-shirt, polypropylene shirt, tank, or jogging suit
  • Light sweater, hoodie, windproof jacket, windbreaker, or coat
  • Reflective vest
  • Fleece pants, warm-up pants, men’s cold weather tights, spandex tights, jeans, casual pants, or running shorts
  • Running socks, heavy socks for cold weather, or cotton ankle socks
  • Sweatbands
  • Running shoes, or slipover cleats to put over shoes if you need to walk over ice
  • Cap, visor, headband, or knit cap
  • Sunglasses
