Overview

TAmerican Heart Association Diet.jpg

The American Heart Association’s low-fat diet is essentially a nationwide campaign to build awareness of “bad” fats — trans fats and saturated fats.

  • The association states that although certain types and amounts of fat are healthy in a diet, trans fats and saturated fats are considered unhealthy fats that can lead to increased cholesterol and heart disease.
  • Their goal is to help people reduce the amount of bad fats they eat.

To reach this goal, the American Heart Association has developed an interactive website to help people manage the fat they consume. The site allows people to enter their age, height, weight, and physical activity level to calculate the amount of fat they should allow in their daily diets. Users can also find information and watch videos that discuss good versus bad fats, and how to avoid foods with bad fats.

Pros: The American Heart Association’s low-fat diet is nutritionally sound and the website is a good source of information.

Cons: None.
