Gain-weight

Most people want to lose weight, but there are quite a few who want to gain as well. Whether they lost too much weight during an emotional period in their life, or are interested in gaining weight to make muscles more prominent, or even if they just have a very fast metabolism that keeps them on the thin side – the following tips may help someone who is embarking upon a weight gain journey!

Start by being mindful of your caloric intake, and eating more calories than you would normally intake! If you take in more calories than you burn, you will most likely gain weight. Mind you, this doesn’t give you a “get out of jail free” card to eat everything. It’s in your best interest to eat healthy whole foods – not junk. Eat fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lots of lean protein. High quality carbohydrates (brown rice, beans, sweet potatoes) and healthy fats (nuts, fish oil, olive oil) should be included in the diet.


Don’t do too much aerobic exercise, as it burns calories and is usually used to maintain or lose weight. Focus on strength training if you want to gain weight in the form of muscle mass. Creatine supplements are available at health food stores for weight gain, and you can mix protein powders into your smoothies for extra caloric intake.

When trying to gain weight, stick to one to two pounds per week. Do not expect overnight results, especially if you are trying to gain muscle. Be patient and soon you will have successfully achieved your weight gain!
